Component catalog
Challenge
The company created a system of building components for Revit, however there was no catalog Architects could use to instance them to their projects.
Solution
I designed a digital catalog (marketplace) where architects could search for components, consult their properties and instance to Revit.
Impact
The catalog enabled Architects work faster and more independently as they didn’t rely on tech support any more.
Research
ID interviews and Focus groups
At the beggining we organized a focus group to understand what are the main painpoints of our users (Architests)
My next step was conducting ID interviews with 5 users to understand their daily needs anf frustrations on a deeper level
Outcome
As a result of our investigation I created personas and user jurney map highliting main user painpoints and listing potential opportunities of improvement
Main painpoint
Integration between catalog and Revit
Our main technical challenge was how to integrate catalog with Revit. We decided that eventhough Catalog will be created outside of Revit enviroment we will visualize it in a dialog window so that users can open it in Revit interface and instaciate components directly to their models
.
We prepared a few versions of low fidelity wireframes. We used a marketplace structure for the catalog as we believed it would be intuitive for every user.
Low Fi wireframes
Tests
We conducted a few iterations of user testing and implementing improvements to create the smoothest user experience
